Eleven years ago, Rachel attended a lampshade-making course after struggling to find something unique in shops. Wanting a more personal touch for her home, she created a custom shade and enjoyed the process so much that she made new ones for every room. When she began sharing photos with her colleagues, they quickly started requesting their own—and from there, Fait Par Moi was born.
In late 2018, Rachel made the life-changing decision to leave her 30-year corporate career and turn her creative passion into a business. Within just a month, she was featured on BBC Midlands Today, and 11 months later, she was honoured with a Small Business Sunday (SBS) award from Theo Paphitis.
Rachel has worked with high profile clients throughout the UK and her work can be found in retail outlets and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
Today, Rachel handcrafts a variety of lampshade styles and has expanded her range to include homewares such as cushions, draft excluders, and lanterns. She takes pride in offering distinctive, high-quality designs and provides a bespoke service tailored to individual tastes. Rachel uses premium materials and, wherever possible, sources eco-friendly options.
Sustainability is a key part of Rachel’s process. Materials are sourced from within the UK, with a preference for suppliers based in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Offcuts from lampshade production are never wasted—they’re reused to make quilting swatches, lantern kits, bunting, lavender packs, or are used to fill draft excluders.
