Longer Description:

Natalie Mills (Millsy Art), known to most people as ‘Millsy’ since she was a child, is an abstract artist based in Birmingham. She grew up in Birmingham but moved to London in 1995 to study BA Hons in Fine Art at The Byam Shaw School of Art, graduating in 1998. She has recently moved back to Birmingham (2023).
For over 15 years after graduating MIlls never so much as picked up a paintbrush. Life got in the way! But approximately 10 years ago she started painting once again.
Mills’ work documents a very personal journey; a therapeutic reconnection with art. At first, a blank canvas scared her, always fearful of the outcome, scared it wouldn’t represent what she wanted to convey and the possibility of it all going wrong.
As she has progressed emotionally as well as creatively she became freer, worrying less, learning to look at things differently; a mirror to her life in general. It was then she captured her love for painting once again.
Mills uses mixed media including acrylics, spray paint and collage. She has more recently started to include a figurative element into her abstracts which is a real progression and move forward for her. Natalie’s paintings are colourful, vibrant and emotive. Natalie is showing a mix of her abstracts as well as her figurative abstracts in the exhibition to show her diversity as an artist.
