“Paintings of spaces and places to fill with stories and maybes”.

Falmouth trained contemporary painter Hannah Pugh takes her influence from the everyday magic of the natural world and the stories us humans evoke about it.

Her painting uses a variety of water based mediums, surfaces and scales. She works instinctually with her mediums, taking direction from their interactions and then layering more controlled mark-making techniques to reach the finished piece - bound together by darkness, light, and an ongoing love affair with the horizon, the result is mesmerising and otherworldly.

“My practice utilises memory and imagination, I’m looking for Elsewhere. I paint liminal places that are in-between reality and dreams. I want them to shift each time you look at them. There’s always a story to be found. I like to think I’m providing people with a moment of escape. Lingering on the threshold of eeriness and whimsy”

Hannah paints celestial speculative worlds containing doorways, skies and oceans; instinctive mark making coupled with the organic flow of her favoured medias - ink and bleach, come together to create emotive landscapes, sometimes captured in miniature, as though secretly glimpsed through a keyhole, as in her SomeWear Jewellery collection, and at other times on much larger wall-hanging canvases and framed paper works.

Unique, hand-gilded giclee prints are also available of Hannah’s work, all signed, embossed and individually gilded by her in the All Is Not Lost Art studio resulting in an original finish each time.

Hannah Pugh’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the UK, notably the RBSA, iKON and as part of the ING Discerning Eye, whilst also having work in private collections internationally.
